Sundial
Horizontal Sundial
Geographical position: 46° 33′ 31″ N latitude
11° 13′ 28″ E longitude
On the wall there is a triangular opening through which the sun’s rays project a light arrow onto the floor.
On the dial, along the straight line of the equinox (TNG), the numerals of Central European Summer Time (MESZ) are displayed, while along the arched line of the winter solstice (WSW) the numerals of Central European Winter Time (MEWZ) are located.
When the light arrow touches the line of True Local Time (WOZ XII), oriented towards the north (N), pointing exactly to the geographic North Pole and running parallel to the local meridian of longitude 11°13′28″, the sun reaches its highest point on that day – true noon.
If the light arrow touches the line of the figure eight curve, it indicates the exact minute of 12:00 Central European Winter Time (MEWZ) or 13:00 Central European Summer Time (MESZ).
If the light arrow travels along the arched line of the winter solstice (WSW), it indicates the longest night of the year. Along the line of the summer solstice (SSW), it marks the longest day, and along the equinox line (TNG), day and night are of equal length.
When the light arrow touches a month marker, it indicates the first day of the respective month.
