Vilpian, the second-biggest harbour of the Terlan community, is located almost right in the centre between Bozen and Meran.

The villages’ former name “Vulpian” was first mentioned in an official document in 1288.

The name derives from “Villa plana” (village on the plane). In 1313 it was written as “Fulpian”, later on as “Fülpian”. From 1564 the writing changed to Vilpian.

The symbol of the village are the two parish churches dedicated to Saint Joseph the Worker.

The waterfall, a natural spectacle, is also worth a visit. And there is a small cable car bringing hikers up to Tschöggelberg Mountain.

The landscape is characterised by orchards.
